That is quite an ironic thing to say in a community dedicated to mocking tankies.

That is, unless you were referring to the community itself.

Who builds their identity around this community? If anyone builds their identity around this community, you will see me happily mocking them for that.

Communities have identity as well, though I have occasionally encountered users who seem to share the same identity as this community; moderate liberal types who seem to transform into reactionaries upon encountering leftists. Authoritarians are a real presence in leftist spaces, but this whole tankie discourse lends itself to reactionary thinking.

Criticizing people who support atrocities leads itself to reactionary thinking. Great.

You are changing what you said. No one said communities don’t have identity. You were talking about building your identity around a community.

The Star Trek community here on Lemmy has an identity. Trekkies as a whole have an identity. I’m a Trekkie. I don’t build my identity around it. People seeing me walking around in public wouldn’t automatically say, “that guy is a fan of Star Trek.” Unless maybe I’m wearing this shirt, which I wear because I base my identity around things that make me laugh.

I would actually argue it’s not a game, but just modern conservatism centered around an idolization of Marxist-Lenninist ideology.

Political views notwithstanding, there’s a lot of similarities that can be drawn between the behaviors of both tankies and Republicans.

I’m just glad that they know who the real enemy of the Glorious Communist Revolution is: volunteer moderators on a free website.

I’ve been observing this “development” over the last months and I am really starting to wonder what it is you, op, and that other guy living to rag on far leftists, get from all that.

My instance is federated with most others, so I get the full perspective so to say, and I really don’t see those argumentative and comment section flooding China/russia good shit any more. And what some of them write in their own instances really doesn’t bother me or has any bearing on the world’s trajectory anyway.

So why this weirdly zealous centrist campaign against .ml? It feels like manufactured outrage to me at this point.

      Endless amusement.

And I am not in any way a centrist. I just don’t pass the Tankie purity test of embracing the “right” authoritarians rather than denouncing all of them.

Count yourself lucky, considering that pro-China and pro-Russia atrocity denialism is still rampant.

This one line makes me think you don’t see the problem with them, because you’re aligned with them.

Since when did being against authoritarianism, in all its forms, start being a centrist? That’s Tankie shit.

I’m no centrist, I’m pretty far left myself, but I’m against authoritarianism and thus failed the Tankie purity test.

I dare you to find anything pro tankie in my submissions. In fact I am banned on hexbear and probably a bunch of other related communities for dunking on them.

However I don’t believe their agenda warrants defederation, that ultimately just turns the fediverse into a bunch of differently flavored echo chambers. Discourse thrives from a variety of voices, and as a leftist myself it seems silly you work so hard to silence voices you and I have so much in common with, while there are much more important fights. Leftist infighting is as much a threat to the movement as is the capital and its lackeys.

That being said I of course disagree with the chinussia apologia that sometimes crops up. I just don’t see why the fediverse should splinter without any real cause or benefit.

Calling people “centrists” or right-wing or “fake leftists” for being against authoritarian/fascist regimes is pretty much straight outta the Tankie playbook

I can vibe and have good discourse with anybody on the left, except Tankies. Hell, I myself would be all too happy to see the fall of capitalism in my lifetime, but Tankies are “left in name only” authoritarians and generally just spread misinformation, pro-CCP/pro-Russia propaganda and the denials of all the negatives about them.

And frankly, have no place on the Fediverse at large, Lemmy is open source so if they want to have a platform they can, but the wider Fediverse does not and id argue should not facilitate that kind of crap.

It is not intolerant to not tolerate intolerance.
