    That is, unless you were referring to the community itself.

      Who builds their identity around this community? If anyone builds their identity around this community, you will see me happily mocking them for that.

        Communities have identity as well, though I have occasionally encountered users who seem to share the same identity as this community; moderate liberal types who seem to transform into reactionaries upon encountering leftists. Authoritarians are a real presence in leftist spaces, but this whole tankie discourse lends itself to reactionary thinking.

          You are changing what you said. No one said communities don’t have identity. You were talking about building your identity around a community.

          The Star Trek community here on Lemmy has an identity. Trekkies as a whole have an identity. I’m a Trekkie. I don’t build my identity around it. People seeing me walking around in public wouldn’t automatically say, “that guy is a fan of Star Trek.” Unless maybe I’m wearing this shirt, which I wear because I base my identity around things that make me laugh.
