    Cool

Anyone know what happens when a state opts out of sending an electoral delegation?

Because West Virginia obviously skipped that day in school.

They don’t get counted. That’s it. If WV refuses to recognize the election they will lose their electrical votes. So if Trump loses, (we all know they won’t have an issue with Trump winning) then he gets to lose even harder. That’s it. That’s the effect.

      Their electrical votes, you say?

But I guess they could send in false electors like Frump wanted last time.

Yeah, I’m sure someone will let them know and then it’ll change. But it is pretty funny to watch the party that supposedly loves the Constitution the mostest get it so wrong, so often. Also infuriating but I’m choosing laughter today.

So anyone else reading this as the preamble for a secession claim if Trump doesn’t win?

A quick search shows (as of 2022) WV took in $20b more than it paid to the federal government, so good luck dealing with that deficit on your own! 👋

Crazily enough the thing about it in the 1860’s is why WV even exists in the first place. They split off from VA because they had no slaves and thus no reason to fight to keep them.

    1. This is dumb because electors already are not required to vote based on the public’s preference

    2. I’m not sure how a state can sign into law only conditional acceptance of federal election results. Seems like something you’d do if you were planning to secede. WV definitely ain’t seeding.

The state benefits disproportionately from being in the Union. Without, what does it have? No farmland, no livestock, no oil, no cities, just coal
