I have been thinking about some old survival game that I used to play that doesn’t exist anymore recently, maybe it’s time I give The Long Dark some real playtime!
Musician, nerd, anxious.

Ah, that brings a tear to my eye to think about. I grew up on a SPAM farm and worked it through my formative years. So many good memories working that patch. You know it’s gonna be hard work, but rewarding, when they start to lose their metal shine and ripen into a blueish hue. It’s time for harvest when the letter-like pattern deepens to a rich yellow.
Gosh, I feel sad for folks who’ve never peeled and bitten into a fresh SPAM fruit right there in the field.
I think one of the main reasons why the fediverse didn’t blow up much bigger than it did over the past couple of years is because of the weird and insistent need to explain how it works from every possible angle with seemingly every possible analogy. It’s information overload and it only confuses the shit out of people who do not care in the slightest how it works.
Hmm… maybe if we tell the nerds that they need to add an “abstraction layer” to their explanations that might motivate them to simplify?
I’ve had that one in my library since it originally came out and I’ve been wanting to play it ever since, but haven’t found time. I understand they’ve added quite a bit since the early days!
Perfect timing for me! I was starting to plan out how I was going to transcode my media library and had decided to write a script to do it. So I’ll give this one a try!
That is a fantastically odd line of action figures!
I, sadly, agree with you. I’ve gotten to the point where if I am reading a thread or forum and the comments turn into nothing but criticism about things that I don’t personally feel deserve the time to read or apply energy to, I close it and never look back. I don’t mind constructive criticism, but I don’t make these things (like TNG or Andromeda) so it’s never practically constructive for me to endure the critique.
Speaking of Mass Effect: Andromeda, I was really enjoying that game when it came out and then I made the mistake of reading threads on Reddit and they were so fucking negative and hateful that it actually soured the experience for me. My own fault for letting it drag down the thing I was enjoying, but there was just so much vitriol that it got under my skin even though I didn’t really agree with the majority of it. My general rule now is to stay away from the fanbases of anything I truly enjoy and care about. Which obviously sucks. Somewhere along the line it became the norm for internet discourse to become an echo chamber of hate.
Seems like just about all games end up overdue by years (or sometimes a decade) these days.
