Listenbrainz or last.fm can offer recommendations, but there won’t be the instant gratification. Last.fm does support music playback on its website, which sources from YouTube. Either platforms are going to require some work to build up an account.

If you’re comfortable with Plex, I’d advocate for its sonic analysis tool. It looks at the waveform of newly added music and then offers recommendations. Coming from a massive streaming service, it’s been refreshing to use Plexamp. The curation aspect of my library is fun compared to the sprawling library on Spotify. I like the fact that I control with artists and albums are in my library. It’s led to me finding more deep cuts with my favorite groups rather. The hard part is finding/ripping the music you’d like to listen to.

Most work days, I use Plexamp because the curated library leads to less skipping and I stay more focused. I still have Spotify for home because the library is unbeatable and other family members use our group account. Either platform will scrobble my listens to last.fm while Listenbrainz will update itself from my last.fm account. I can search for new music on Last.fm or Listenbrainz and add it to my Plex library.

Somehow you’re both partially wrong. There are people who have been badly abused by the porn industry. There’s always a need to make sure people are safe. But there’s nothing wrong if someone wants to willingly perform in pornography.

It was super confusing for me being the first generation that didn’t grow up on the farm.

We’re forgetting that Yuzu devs had Tears of the Kingdom and released a version that could run the game before it came out commercially. And to those who were behind a donation paywall too.

The team got caught with their hand in the cookie jar and had to settle the lawsuit. They had too much cash on hand to appear like innocent homebrew developers. And how silly is it to be sharing such hot warez like AAA game leaks on a crappy platform like Discord?

They served this lawsuit to Nintendo on a platter. I’ve been following the emulator scene since 1998 and have no love lost for their high-priced ninja lawyer warriors. Teams deserve donations but not based on the promise that users will get an updated emulator before games even hit store shelves. The scene has to protect itself by making good decisions that avoid further legal debacles.

If Civ 7 reviews well and works on Steam Deck, I’ll be tempted.

I’ve been a patient gamer since buying used NES games as a little kid, but I’ll buy at launch every once in a while. I was a single adult with a full-time job when Mario Maker came out. I took a day off work just to play it nonstop. It was a childhood dream of mine to design and play my own levels and spent my teenage years making ROM hacks with Lunar Magic.

I still think about how great that day was, staying home all day to play. Sometimes it’s nice to treat yourself.

I think it’s important to consider whether existing social media platforms can even support “free speech.” And how does society even define the term?

Regardless of that philosophical discussion, I don’t think EFF is specifically debating the free speech principles of an average person who is acting in good faith. Social media platforms that are owned by companies like Meta allow well-founded groups to flood user feeds with bad sponsored content.

If Android is okay, I’d recommend the ONN 4K Pro player from Walmart (if located in the U.S.) with some privacy caveats:

• Do as little with Google: Make a throwaway login if Google requires one to get the device started up. Try to avoid Google Play Store as much as possible. If privacy from Google isn’t a concern, feel free to use your Google account to download apps from the Google Play Store.
• Learn how to sideload apps: There are multiple ways to do this, like a USB drive or FTP server.
• Pick an alternate launcher: This will replace the default Android TV OS UI with one that has much more flexability and no ads. FLauncher and Projectivity are ones that I recommend to friends.

The final product is a modern streaming device with much more flexability than any other store-bought device. Building a HTPC with Linux is probably the true self hosted option. Personally, I’m able to afford some privacy sacrifices with Google for something that “just works.”
