Areas around Clipstone Brook have repeatedly experienced flooding.
The Minister visited the Meadow Way Community Centre which opened as an assistance centre for residents to use if they need to leave their homes. At the Centre they met local volunteers and members of the Bedfordshire Local Emergency Volunteers Executive Committee (BLEVEC), a group of volunteers we and other partners work with during emergencies. The BLEVEC volunteers offer a range of services and are invaluable ‘on the ground’ support helping residents.
The Minister and colleagues from the Environment Agency and the Council visited several areas of Leighton Buzzard affected by flooding to assess the impact and speak to residents.
Councillor Adam Zerny, Leader said:
Flooding is having a devastating impact on many local residents and businesses. I’m pleased the Minister for Flooding was able to meet with me, and local volunteers, to appreciate first hand the impact flooding is having in our area.Protecting communities is become even more challenging as we experience more extreme weather. We aim to ensure we are very much in the new government’s thinking as it looks at the options to reduce the risk of flooding.
